You can actually already use the Attendance book to track detentions. Just create a new Attendance book, then click the Edit button & choose "Edit Notations." From here you can set up your various consequences.
I agree that it may seem a bit odd to have to visit the Attendance tab in order to see detention, but the Attendance tool should be powerful enough to track detentions already.
A quick update: Our most recent plan is to allow teachers to label calendar events. So, instead of having separate calendars, you can label certain events red (quizzes), others yellow (notes for parents), etc. Then, when adding a calendars to your Pages you can choose to only show events with a certain label.
It is up to your teacher to decide when to publish your grade average. If you want to see your average grade please ask your teacher to go to the gradebook and click the publish button in the the "Published Subtotal" column.
We display Assessments on un-published pages in the Calendar because you have chosen to publish those Assessments. We thought it would be confusing to have more than one way of un-publishing an Assessment (e.g. from the Assessments tab you choose to publish an Assessment, yet it is still not available to students because you accidentally place it on an un-published page).
Good catch. The way we should have do it is that even when the "chunk of descriptive text" isn't displayed because the students are registered, the print-all (and probably the individual print buttons) should still be available for parent invitations. This should be a fairly quick fix so we'll put it on our short list.
Luckily for you that feature does exist. If you open your roster there is a chunk of descriptive text near the top of the window that lists the URL where your parents can go to sign up. Right at the bottom of that paragraph there is a link that reads "Print all invitations" (screenshot here: http://img.skitch.com/20080919-f8pj28h1dbr239mjq7y88nistm.jpg). Let us know if you still have questions.
If you want a chat tool built into haiku LMS then by all means, keep voting for this suggestion! We'd love to hear if this is an important feature for you that Embed the Web™ doesn't address fully or simply enough.
You can add several third party chat clients via Embed the Web by doing the following:
1) Go to the page of your haiku LMS class where you want students to chat
2) Click "Add Content Block" and choose "Embed the We™"
3) In the left-hand column click the "Chat" category
4) Pick the chat tool that best suits your needs. Personally I would recommend Meebo Rooms or Gabbly. For video chat try TokBox.
The haiku LMS calendar does support calendar events & assignments with more than one word in the title. Could you describe your suggestion in more detail? Did you receive an error when trying to create a new event? Are you talking about only seeing one line of each title in the calendar's month view? (If you hover your mouse over a line you should see the full title.)
@michaelfarina - You're right, Embed the Web will allow integration with some tools like Gabbly and Ribbit. From what I've read about weblin.com it relies on a download or Firefox addon. If you're familiar with Weblin we'd love to learn more about it, contact us & let us know how you use it: http://www.haikuls.com/contact
@stevenfletcher - Good point. Up to this point nearly all content on haiku is teacher-controlled. As we consider giving students more control over their profile we will definitely give a lot of thought over how schools, parents & teachers can help determine which student information is safe to share. Thanks for your feedback!
@stevenfletcher - While I agree that social networks aren't always positive for education, the External Content Block suggested here could be used for much more. Adding a video from TeacherTube.com, a customized news feed from Yahoo Pipes, or an educational flash game, for example. Of course the content included is controlled by the Teacher so it's up to them to determine a resource's worth.
@stevenfletcher - We currently send an email notification about new activity every 24 hours. Some teachers may want to be notified more quickly when students write discussion posts or send inbox messages. This suggests that a teacher could choose to get an email notification about new discussion & inbox activity every 2 hours while getting the rest of their notifications every 24 hours.

That being said, I would love to hear more about why hiding these Assessments from the calendar would be best for you. Thanks for the feedback!
