add Student Profiles (Show and Share)
Students can set up informational pages about themselves including photos, files, video and audio. They can flag some files to be part of their show and share, one or more resources that are featured with their identity on the website. Possible additional features would allow for the inclusion of del.ico.us data, or other information from social networking sites.

One easy way of integrating already existing social profiles would be to embrace OpneId through Google's Friend Connect or Facebook Connect. This is a must have feature. Students need to be able to communicate with one another on Haiku using the same communicative tools they use outside the classroom. It can make Haiku not just an extension of the classroom but the classroom itself.

I think you should allow for both. For teachers who want total control of what their students can put on a profile page, wonderful. But for college use, it would make much more sense to simply integrate already existing profiles on other social sites; students are only in a course for 3 months anyway. This would allow students to "enter" different Haiku classes with the same social identity.

@stevenfletcher - Good point. Up to this point nearly all content on haiku is teacher-controlled. As we consider giving students more control over their profile we will definitely give a lot of thought over how schools, parents & teachers can help determine which student information is safe to share. Thanks for your feedback!

Social networking sites can be a wonderful thing. However, a lot of negative things go on there. Since some parents and educators might prefer to restrict this, I would suggest that the student profiles are maintained within Haiku and not link to other social networking sites.
